As an educator in psychology and psychotherapy for more than 20 years, a clinician since 2005, and a clinical supervisor since 2017, I strongly believe that the foundation of providing effective counselling for clients is based on a therapist’s ability to stay true to themselves and create strong therapeutic relationships. This is most often done while staying in the present moment (Stern) with clients. Accordingly, my supervision philosophy emphasizes the therapist's ability to be with the client while at the same time being with themselves in the clinical setting. Linking theory to practice, while considering the clinician's emotional reactions in the consulting room, are important to help the supervisee critically reflect on their SEUS (safe and effective use of self). I support psychotherapy interns, RPQs, and fully licensed professionals as they journey to create or expand their professional identity. I emphasize self-reflection, case conceptualization, and skill building but also focus on intentionality when considering specific modalities and/or techniques. My supervision pedagogy is grounded in feminist approaches, with an emphasis on psychodynamic, attachment, relational, and transferential insights.

You may feel stressed, exhausted, or just going through the motions of your life. Moreover, circumstances may have driven you to re-evaluate your priorities in life. Anxiety, depression, or feelings of overwhelm may be at play, and you may feel like you want a safe space to assess how you got to where you are today. We will work with you to explore your current relationships and family-of-origin issues and support you in working through grief, loss, anxiety, trauma (including vicarious trauma and moral injury), and depression. We work with clients with addictions and those wanting nervous system regulation to gain control over emotional dysregulation. We can support Neurodiverse and BIPOC clients and we encourage introspection, self-reflection, and the exploration of life-long and new patterns with the hope of making the present and the future more healthy, meaningful, and positive.

Our therapy modalities pull from various schools of psychology, including, but not limited to, cognitive/dialectical behavioural, mindfulness, trauma-informed, emotion-focused, humanistic, Motivational Interviewing, and Internal Family Systems. to name only a few. We specialize in getting to the root of your symptoms and challenges, particularly if they have been life-long or long-standing and are grounded in childhood trauma or Family-of-origin attachment ruptures. We work with substance use, addictions, and relationship challenges. We use integrative approaches that include Psychodynamic Therapy to explore your emotional and behavioural patterns to help you gain insight into who you were, who you are now, and who you want to be. This form of therapy explores the foundations of our emotional suffering and where it might have all started. Self-reflection, self-exploration, and the relationship between therapist and client are pivotal in the change process. This type of therapy aims to help you understand yourself so you can know who you show up as in your life. We can help you to be more self-compassionate as you get to know yourself during this process.

A range of emotions and life experiences can encourage us to seek therapy. You may be feeling stressed, anxious, lost, grieving, struggling with substance dependence, or experiencing other uncomfortable emotions. Perhaps you hope to gain more self-awareness. If so, I am honoured to support you earnestly in fulfilling and celebrating your goals.

Hearing people’s life stories is one of the driving forces behind my passion for counselling. I aim to compassionately facilitate the understanding and unravelling of these stories and their patterns in a meaningful way, allowing life to be lived more joyfully. With over six years of experience in various roles supporting neurodivergent individuals diagnosed with ASD, as well as their families, I’ve had the privilege of working with children, youth, and adults. Additionally, I have a year of experience working with different populations presenting various mental health needs.

My services extend to individual, couple, and family counselling. My approach to therapy is to create a safe and comfortable space for clients to express themselves freely. I strive to make this space genuine and down-to-earth, considering each client’s unique preferences and cultural backgrounds. I approach therapeutic work with humility and respect for individuals’ inherent wisdom and agency.

My goal is to help individuals feel safe enough within themselves and their environments to be their true selves. The following quote by Maryam Hasnaa encapsulates my outlook on therapy: “A healer does not heal you. A healer is someone who holds space for you while you awaken your inner healer so that you may heal yourself”. I view psychotherapy as a powerful tool for helping individuals better understand themselves and their world, navigate transitions, shed unhelpful patterns, and move towards a more creative and empowered state.

My practice is person-centred and trauma-responsive. I prioritize nervous system regulation to cultivate a profound sense of safety at a therapeutic pace. I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach, applying experiential and humanistic modalities while drawing from various other frameworks, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and psychodynamic.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (CRPO), Educator (Retired Associate Professor, Wilfrid Laurier University), and a Canadian Certified Counsellor-Supervisor (CCS) through the CCPA. With 25 years experience and a Ph.D. in Research Psychology (Neuropsychoanalysis), I help therapists integrate top-down cognitive modalities (CBT/DBT, SF, MBCT, ACT, and Narrative therapy, to name only a few) with methods that allow us to work deeper to get at the root cause or foundational hurt, pain, loss, and grief that may lie below presenting problems and/or “symptoms” (neuro-psychodynamic, IFS, EFT, existential, ect.). I use Neuro-dynamic/analytic psychotherapy frameworks to help therapists identify and outline the client’s Primary Attachment Wounds, Predictions, and Patterns, which emerge as key themes in the client’s presentation. I offer a 3-step theme-based case conceptualization model which helps the therapist focus the therapy. As a clinical fellow in Neuropsychoanalysis, I apply and teach this knowledge in supervision, particularly when a client presents with primary activation in one of the seven emotional brain systems.

I provide supervision to mental health professionals, RPQs, RPs, and Independent Practitioners from all mental health professions (MACP, MEd, SW, MD, RN, OT, etc). I firmly believe that the foundation of providing effective counselling for clients is based on a therapist’s ability to remain true to themselves and establish strong therapeutic relationships. This is most often done while staying in the present moment with clients. Accordingly, my supervisory philosophy emphasizes the therapist’s ability to be present with the client while also being present with themselves in the clinical setting. Transference and countertransference provide us with data that allows us to modify our case conceptualization and treatment plan. Thus, they are key elements of our work. Linking theory to practice, while considering the clinician’s emotional reactions in the consulting room, is essential to help the supervisee critically reflect on their SEUS (safe and effective use of self). I support therapists as they journey to create or expand their professional identity.  I emphasize self-reflection, case conceptualization, and skill building, but also focus on intentionality when considering specific modalities and/or techniques. I work from an anti-oppressive supervisory lens.

I offer supervision for therapists with clients over 15 years of age and for their couples therapy clients using EFT, Gottman, Psychodynamic/attachment/Relational.
